New Delhi : The sub-4 meter SUVs in India are getting popular and Renault is planning to step in the segment with its upcoming car Kiger, which will be made on company’s CMF-A+ modular platform.
However, there is no official announcement about the car launch and its price; but, the leaked reports have claimed that the company is planning to launch the vehicle as one of the most affordable sub-4 meter SUV in the country.
Currently, Renault has only three products in the market – Kwid, Duster and Triber. While all the three products have their own fan base, none of the product has managed to become the leader in their segment. But, things could be different for Kiger as the company is planning to aggressively price the car between Rs 5.5 lakh for the entry-level version, going up to Rs 10 lakh for the top-end trim (ex-showroom).
In the market, Kia Sonet is the only product which is most affordable SUV and it comes with a minimum price tag of Rs 6.71 lakh (ex-showroom).
Powering the Kiger will likely be the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder NA petrol engine as the Triber. This engine puts out 72 PS of max power and 96 Nm of peak torque, and comes coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. Also on offer will be a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, with a power output of around 100 PS, and a 160 Nm torque rating.
The car will come with both manual and CVT transmission. The Kiger will be sharing its underpinnings with the upcoming Nissan Magnite, pre-production concept of which had already been revealed to the world.
